Photography Workshops

My philosophy: Simplify the technical so you can concentrate on more important things, like making a meaningful picture!

Taming your camera

If you are new to photography, or you can’t wrap your head around the technical aspects or the jargon that goes with it, there’s help!

Cell phones, film cameras, DSLRs, mirrorless cameras - basic principles rule them all. This workshop is tailored to you, based on where you are now and where you would like to go. The following topics will be part of that journey.

  • Demystifying the lens, the camera and the sensor

  • The basics of manual exposure (this will also help to understand what the auto settings are doing)

  • More photography with less equipment

  • Setups for your specific style of photography

Two hours. Available either in-person or remote via video chat.

Simplifying your photography!

There are too many technical complications standing between us and our photography. We will explore simplifying your purpose, equipment, settings and post-production so we can concentrate on what matters most; a great photograph!

One hour interactive workshop. Also available as an in-person or remote presentation to a camera club or art association.

Light portraits precisely like DaVinci, or break the rules like Rembrandt!

This hands-on introduction to portrait lighting will be useful for painters, photographers and those who simply want to take better pictures of family and friends on their phones. We will explore 7 timeless lighting patterns for the face through the wisdom and artwork of these renaissance masters.

You will not need any fancy lighting equipment to put what you learn into action. Two hours. Minimum of two participants, and well suited for camera club/art association events.

A well-informed and engaging presentation on lighting from a historical perspective drawing on concepts developed by the masters of painting and demonstrating how contemporary lighting can be used to produce similar results. An excellent program!” ~ Marblehead Arts Association
