Has AI killed photography blog posts?
You can smell lazy Chat GPT blog posts from a mile off.
The most common give skin-deep information using 5 numbered bullet points using generic language and buzz words. I even made one myself out of curiosity. Please don’t judge me - you can read it here. Can you recognize the format and the cheesy vocabulary? Did it make you gip a little? Urgh. Me too.
Whenever I read about capturing people’s “essence”, your “best self“ or “elevating” some group of people, you know the writer is a regurgitator. And this is only going to get worse now that AI takes an average of the millions of blog posts that already exist to create your one-of-a-kind average blog post.
AI can be used in more sophisticated ways so it doesn’t make you roll your eyes (again) when looking for information, but there are two things an AI blog post cannot provide; brand new information, and personal experiences.
Coincidentally, those are the two things that make a blog post worth reading.
Google made a great move recently saying that they will favor first hand information. That's a polite way of saying they are trying to downgrade AI-generated junk. This is great news for those making genuinely useful blog posts rather than regurgitating information smushed together from thousands of existing ones.
Every day I see people drawn in to click bait misinformation on Social media designed to trigger an emotion in the quest for cheap attention. Just like MP3s conditioned us to listen to low quality reproductions for convenience, social media is conditioning generations of people, young and old, to consume junk that provokes junk responses to it.
Cheap AI blog posts are here to stay, because there is an audience that doesn't know any better, and prefers fast quantity to deep quality anyway.
But what about the people who demand more? It is now easier than ever to make an above average blog post! By avoiding AI you already have something that no one else has already written! Without AI you can make pictures no one else has already seen! And what’s more, because it is unique, it will rank higher on search engines and be valuable to your readers. Win-win.
Welcome to my blog! No AI regurgitation - just real experiences and thoughts on photography.
